Mabini Mangrove Forests

Bohol is blessed with mangrove forests around their river systems, estuaries and islands along the coast. Mabini is one of several town in Bohol that has a mangrove forest. Mabini Bohol is one of the highest biologically diverse ecosystems of mangroves with 26 mangrove species found along its banks.

Of the 54 true mangrove species (34 major and 20 minor) and 60 members of mangroves throughout the world, the Philippines has about 47 "true mangrove" and associated species belonging to 26 families. True mangrove species are strictly those growing in the mangrove environment, while the associated species can develop in other habitats such as beach forests and lowlands.

Mangroves are salt-tolerant trees that have adapted to live in salt and brackish water. They vary in size from tall trees and shrubs are found along tropical protected marshes or wetlands or in association with estuaries and lagoons, and may extend inland along rivers, streams and their tributaries. They require slow currents and a lot of fine sediment in establishing their roots.
